It's a delight to report that it’s been a strong start to the new calendar year at Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia.
From January to March 2023, a total of 1,031 life-changing surgeries were performed and 1,804 women attended outpatient appointments at Hamlin’s five regional fistula hospitals.
Project Zero, Hamlin’s ambitious new program to accelerate the eradication of obstetric fistula in Ethiopia, launched in March. Through this program, an increasing number of women with historic fistula injuries are being found and treated.
As you know, prevention is key to eradicating fistula. It’s so encouraging to see that 10,405 women attended their first antenatal care appointment with a Hamlin midwife in the first quarter.
Additionally, we're proud that 496 women completed their numeracy and literacy training at Hamlin hospitals. 98 women completed vocational training at Desta Mender, Hamlin’s rehabilitation center, and reintegrated to their community with seed money.
We’re so grateful for your support and because of your generosity, the future looks bright for Ethiopian women.
