Dr Yeshineh has three decades of clinical experience. He began his career as a general practitioner in 1987 after graduating from the Gondar College of Medical Science. In 1997 he qualified as a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Addis Ababa University and in 2019 he completed a senior fellowship in Urogynecology at Mekele University.
Over the last 23 years he has become one of Ethiopia’s most respected Obstetrician-Gynecologists.
He spent 17 years working in hospitals in the Oromia region of Ethiopia including three years at Hamlin’s Regional Fistula Hospital in Metu. In 2015 he joined Hamlin’s Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital as an expert Obstetician-Gynecologist and Fistula Surgeon.
Today, Dr Yeshineh is Medical Director at Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia. He oversees clinical operations at Hamlin’s Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital and five regional fistula hospitals across Ethiopia. He is also a FIGO (The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics) certified trainer in Fistula Surgery. Dr Yeshineh has performed around 1000 fistula repair surgeries at Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia.
Dr Yeshineh recalls what interested him in Hamlin “I saw it as being a place to serve the most needy and neglected women inside very well-organized facilities. I was convinced that Hamlin was an institution that I can get both professional and moral satisfaction. I was right. Every day here we improve women’s lives”.
Dr Yeshineh’s nine years at Hamlin meant he was lucky to work with Dr Catherine Hamlin before she retired, “working with her is a blessing. She made me to look beyond surgical techniques and taught me the outstanding model she created on how to provide holistic and patient centred care for these poor women.”
Yeshineh lives in Addis Ababa with his wife and two children, aged 15 and 13. Yeshineh is an integral part of the Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia Family.
