Ethiopian actor, film director and writer Amleset Muchie has been appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia. Her appointment was announced at the recent 100th birthday celebrations for Dr Catherine Hamlin in Addis Ababa.
Having aspired to a career in film since a young girl, Amleset wrote her first script while still in high school. On completing her education, she studied journalism at Unity University and then attended the New York Film Academy, where she honed her technical skills.
After working briefly as a journalist, writing for publications such as Addis Admas and The Reporter, Amleset established her own film company, Maya Film Production. She has gone on to release many feature films in addition to producing music videos and commercials for various clients.
Amleset describes herself as a humanitarian and eco-activist, and wrote and produced the documentary Green Ethiopia. As a Hamlin Goodwill Ambassador, she is excited to use her profile to advocate for women in Ethiopia and raise awareness about obstetric fistula.
“I am happy to be chosen as a servant of Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia charity organisation. We will work together to save our sisters and mothers who suffer from fistula disease.”
