Thank you for continuing Catherine’s legacy of humanity and determination through your support of our recent appeal.
Together, we are helping more women reclaim their future through the Hamlin Model of Care.
During childbirth, Abebech lost her baby and sustained a horrific obstetric fistula injury, leaving her incontinent. Her husband married someone else and had two children while Abebech was left to suffer alone.
Unable to take part in community gatherings, Abebech felt sad and isolated. With no education or skills, she could not work to support herself.
Abebech received life-changing surgery, loving care, comprehensive rehabilitation and vital vocational skills training as part of the Hamlin Model of Care. She is now selling Kocho, a traditional food beloved in her community, earning 1,000 Ethiopian birr (US$7.70) a week to support her family.
“I am cured. I never went to school so I couldn’t read or write. Here, I am learning sewing, embroidery, cooking and poultry training. I have a big plan to prepare and sell food. I also want to do embroidery and sewing to create and sell bags.” – Abebech
