The third pilot of Project Zero began in Seharti Woreda in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia on 19 December 2024.
Hamlin-trained teams are currently carrying out house-to-house surveys to identify women with decades-long childbirth injuries and link them to treatment.
Awareness raising activities are being conducted in schools, markets and community gatherings and announcements are being through loudspeakers atop Hamlin vehicles.
The four health centers and the woreda’s maternal healthcare system have undergone a thorough assessment, using the Hamlin standard checklist. The health centers have been refurbished prior to receiving patients.
Hamlin-trained teams receive their official Project Zero certificates before they set to work finding women with childbirth injuries and linking them to treatment and loving care at a Hamlin fistula hospital.
Hamlin-trained teams are raising awareness of childbirth injuries and available treatment at markets and community gatherings.

Field Update from Hanna Tesfaye
Project Zero’s 4th Pilot in Fedis Woreda launched on Saturday 22nd March and we believe will serve as a solid foundation for the subsequent months to conduct the first phase of the project as planned.
The team is fully assembled, we have secured the office and equipment and conducted induction training for the team.
The training helps the new team understand the project and share Hamlin’s passion for improving maternal healthcare services and eliminating obstetric fistula once and for all in Fedis Woreda.
