These brave women have completed their two-month residency program, learning numeracy and literacy as well as vocational skills including catering, vegetable farming, poultry farming, sewing, pottery, handicrafts, leadership and communications as well as small-business guidance. Some women receive seed money to start their own business when they return home.

“At Hamlin, I found a place where I could regain my hope. I received training at Desta Mender that makes me incredibly happy and empowers me to support my family.

I learned poultry, farming, embroidery and how to save money. I have learned skills to run a business. I hope to change my life and make the Hamlin staff proud.” - Kedija, Women’s Empowerment Program graduate
